Glossary: Excess Adsorption

The quantity determined in a gravimetric or volumetric adsorption experiment, also know as the Gibbs Excess or Gibbsian Surface Excess. It is the difference between the amount of fluid in the system and the amount that would be present at the same temperature and pressure in the absence of adsorption.
