Glossary: Permeation

The steady state transfer rate of sorbate through a host material in defined conditions, which is a function of both solubility and diffusivity. This is often expressed as a permeability constant or transmission rate. For example, Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate (MVTR) is used to describe the rate at which water molecules move through packaging films.
