Glossary: Physisorption

Weak adsorption due predominantly to dispersive (Van der Waals) intermolecular forces. For example, the adsorption of nitrogen at LN2 temperature used in BET surface area analysis. Adsorbate molecules with inherently low Van der Waals interaction such as water vapor are very sensitive to surface chemistry.
